Ohio State brings internet to Speed Week 2008!

For Speed Week 2008, the Ohio State University Buckeye Bullet 2 team will be turning the pit area on the Bonneville Salt Flats into a temporary WiFi hot spot.

In coordination with our high performance computing sponsor, the Ohio Supercomputer Center, and their connection with the Transportable Satellite Internet System (TSIS) project, free wireless internet will be available to all of the racers and spectators in attendance at the Bonneville salt flats.

Anyone who may be out on the salt flats during the event is welcome to stop by our pit area to check out the Buckeye Bullet 2, a hydrogen fuel cell electric streamliner, entirely designed and built by Ohio State engineering students. (Or to get a better signal!)

We will be using this connection to provide more up-to-date updates to this blog, and bring more photos and videos as well!

Some statistics about the portable internet system:
  • Downlink: 1.5 Mbps/sec
  • Uplink: 512Kbps/sec
  • Wireless: 802.11b
  • Range: 1000 feet in buildings
See you on the salt!
